About Ike

Ike - Wright Kennels Trainer

While growing up in Bozeman, Montana, Ike Todd always knew he wanted to be involved with bird dogs.  At the age of 14, he began competing in NSTRA trials where he earned multiple championships and numerous placements.  He continued his pursuits with bird dogs while attending Montana State University.  It was apparent to everyone around him—especially those that helped him develop at an early age–Ike has a natural way with dogs and horses.

In 2002 Ike began studying under Hall of Famer Ferrel Miller, gaining knowledge from Mr. Miller’s vast experience and expertise.  After several summers on the prairie with Ferrel and winter breaks spent at his farm outside Murray, Kentucky Ike began working for Joe Don House and Gary Lester, both Kentucky farmers and bird dog enthusiasts.  Ike applied the knowledge gained from Ferrel Miller to the dogs owned by Mr. House and Mr. Lester.  Ike scouted and handled for the duo, acquiring placements too numerous to count, in field trials across the country.    He has been a major reason for the success of a number of winners including Shell Creek Coin, Lesters Snowatch, Lesters Thunderstorm, Lesters Storm, Lesters Tom Cruise, Lesters Sky, Lesters Bodacious, Lesters White Oak, Lesters Pretty Boy, Houses River Fever, CJ Confidential, Macs Memphis May, Houses Maddy River, Houses Line Up, Millers Atomic Rain, and Millers Happy Jack, just to name a few.

Ike also trained and scouted Lester’s Snowatch to his National Championship win in 2009 and Purina Top Field Trial Bird Dog for 2008-2009.

In the spring of 2010 Ike accepted his position with Wright Farms.  He now resides on the farm in Dancyville, Tennessee and makes his summer camp at the Striker Farm in Bucyrus, North Dakota as well as in Maxbass with Keith where he will continue to develop his training program and institute a first class breeding program with the Touch’s bloodline.  Ike’s love of the sport and dedication will help lead the program to great heights.  His superior work ethic and ability to develop young dogs into champions will help insure the success of this program for many years to come.
